RC|A worked with the City of Nevada City, business owners and citizen groups to explore the option of turning one of Nevada City’s primary commercial streets into a single direction traffic pattern. There was universal agreement that creating a one-way route on Commercial Street would improve traffic circulation while helping to provide safe, convenient and efficient pedestrian access within the Downtown Historic District.
The single lane proposed will provide space for streetscape enhancements such as widened sidewalks, café seating, street trees, bike racks, benches and pop-up community activity space. The project will also address necessary improvements such as drainage and lighting. The local police & fire departments support the project and the proposed traffic pattern is currently being tested.
